“Hey man, calm down. You don’t have to do this.” A man yells from a distance. As D stands there with his eyes swollen with tears. “It’s ok man things are going to be ok,” says the police officer as he slowly, slowly steps closer to D. D shouts, “Y’all have no clue what I’ve been through. Now y’all care!!” D tightens the rope as he steps closer to the edge of the bridge. A soft voice from the crowd yells out, “Babe you don’t have to do this. Why are you acting like this?” At this point, D gets to the point of no return and lets out a bone-chilling yell before he hangs one leg off the edge of the bridge.
About 20 years before, D was a child around 13 years old.
The room is dark and D’s eyes are blurry. The glow from his alarm clock reads 3:57 am. As D lifts his head from his pillow and wipes the drool off of his cheek, D hears a loud noise from the other room. He cautiously pulls his blanket off of him and steps onto the floor. As he steps down off the bed, D hears a loud bang. Instantly he jumps up and his heart begins to race. D is so scared to find out what’s on the other side of the bedroom door but he knows he cannot get back into bed until he does find out what the noise is. D then begins to tip-toe closer to the door as he steps over the piles of clothes scattered across his room. D finally makes it to the door and presses his ear up to it very carefully. D slowly opens the door while praying that it doesn’t make any creaking noise in the process. With the door finally open, D slowly walks out and makes his way towards the balcony that’s across the hallway from his bedroom door.
